Will Your Site Be Penalized This Month?
Late last year, Google began testing for and highlighting websites in their search results that were mobile friendly. The goal behind this change was to make it easier for those that search Google on their smartphones or tablets to find relevant results. This month, Google will be taking that change one step further and will begin calculating the mobile-friendly factor into their ranking algorithm. This means that websites that are mobile friendly will get a boost in the search results while those that are not will likely drop in the rankings.
This will be a very significant adjustment to their ranking system and one that all business owners and marketers need to pay attention to. If you’ve put off upgrading your site to be mobile friendly and you currently use search marketing or Google’s Adwords advertising platform to generate traffic to your site, you will experience a drop in your search rank later this month and diminished traffic. The change is set to happen on April 21st, so you still have a little time to upgrade your site. But you need to get started as soon as possible.
